I have nothing from Lviv
My grandma’s family was forced to resettle from Lviv to Silesia during the Second World War. She was five years old when they got on the train and left their home. They didn’t take any belongings and were moving to the unknown. For the past 40 years, she has been entangled in legal battles, fighting to reclaim her family home in Ukraine. This June, she received a final rejection.
This project seeks to document a symbolic homecoming through photography—revisiting the places tied to my grandmother’s past and exploring themes of longing, home, identity, and migration. By retracing her journey, I hope to reflect on the displacement of around 100,000 Poles from Lviv and how past migrations shape contemporary discussions, particularly in light of growing resistance to mass displacement today.
Rather than following a traditional documentary approach, I aim to create an artistic and emotional response—one that captures the deeply personal yet universally resonant experience of exile and belonging.
