„Mum, are those fireworks?
No, my little girl.
It’s the beginning of the war..”
I couldn’t believe my own words.
I never thought I would utter them.”
These are the words of lryna, who, like millions of other Ukrainians on one February day, made perhaps the most important decision of her life. „On the Way Home” consists of 24 photographs that showcase the stories of four families, among many others like Iryna’s. These are the stories of families forced to leave their homes to save their lives.
Thanks to the assistance of Habitat for Humanity Poland and the Biedronka Foundation, these families found shelter here. In Poland, they found their new home. Each has a unique story, brimming with challenges that have led to exceptional courage and hope for a better tomorrow. Their pictures illustrate the significance of the most ordinary, everyday moments, which often go unnoticed in the hustle and bustle of life. This exhibition also tells a story about the power of helping. We hope this exhibition will encourage moments of reflection and reinforce the idea that lending a helping hand can tremendously impact those around you.
